Chaiman’s Statement

“I am deeply saddened to hear the news that Her Majesty the Queen has died. She was a constant, steadfast figure in our lives and I join millions across the world in mourning her loss.  My heartfelt condolences go to the Royal Family. I hope that they are able to take some comfort from the knowledge that Her Majesty was held in deep regard and affection globally and her legacy will be unmatched as will her service to the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. Although to my knowledge the Queen never visited our parish, I was lucky enough to represent our community at a Buckingham Palace Garden Party some years ago, during which I stood very close to Her Majesty.  Her warmth and genuine interest in those she met was evident and it was clear she enjoyed meeting people and hearing of their achievements.  As we and those after us look back on her reign, she will be judged on her service, humanity, kindness and sense of fun. The values she demonstrated in her reign have set our nation apart from others."
