Fair Oak Community Library will be getting a much needed ‘face lift’ in the spring of 2023.
With the help of Bishopstoke, Fair Oak & Horton Heath Local Area Committee, funding has now been secured to enable works to take place.
The enhancements will include new sun-pipes, windows and modifications to the internal layout as well as redecoration. The improvements will ensure that not only is the building more thermally efficient, but a much more user friendly, flexible and inviting space.
Whilst the works take place, the Council will assist the library in the provision of an interim pop-up library at Woodland Community Centre.
It is anticipated that the construction work will commence on 10 April 2023 with an anticipated re-open in July 2023. The last day users will be able to attend the library is Saturday 25 March. After this date, a pop-up library will be available at the Woodland Community Centre, Savernake Way.
The building will benefit from a £110k of investment which will future proof the building for years to come.
Councillor Helen Douglas, Chair of the Parish Council, said: “The refurbishment will deliver a fresh new look for this tired building, including an open-plan flexible space. It will also enable essential maintenance to the building to take place to ensure it is more energy efficient and a much more pleasant environment for volunteers and users. I’m really pleased that the Council, with funding support from the Local Area Committee has allowed these works to take place”.
Building work will cause a period of disruption while we complete these exciting plans, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this will cause. A pop-up library will be available during this time, but it will also be necessary to temporarily close the site for a short period from April – July 2023 while we carry out the most disruptive elements of the scheme. A programme of works is being finalised and regular updates will be available at the pop-up library, on social media and on the Council’s website.
