Christmas Jumper Swap Event! 25 November 2021 3.00pm – 6.00pm
Did you know that in the UK, it is estimated £140 million worth of clothing goes into landfill each year – more than 300,000 tonnes! Even more worrying is that 1 in 4 Christmas jumpers are thrown away every year.
To tackle clothes waste, we’d like to start up a series of clothes swap events, starting this year with the Christmas Jumper Swap Event! We will ask you to bring your old Christmas jumper and buy a ‘new’ preloved one for just £1 – much cheaper than in the shops! The proceeds will go to a charity chosen by our residents. There will be a survey on our Facebook Page ‘Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council.
1. If you or your child has outgrown (or no longer likes!) their Christmas jumper, bring it in to the parish office (2 Knowle Park Lane) or leave at the donation bin at your local school from 11 November 2021 to donate it to the swap event. Please make sure that it is clean and in good condition. The donation bins will be in school until Friday 19 November.
2. On the swap event day, all jumpers will be sold for £1. The money raised will be donated to a charity chosen by our residents.
3. You choose a ‘new to you’ jumper from among the donated items.
4. That’s it – you take your new jumper home (in your reusable shopping bag) and enjoying wearing it during the Christmas season, and perhaps swap it again next year!
We hope that taking part in this event will help us learn about how we can reduce the amount of waste that we produce and encourages residents to think about recycling and repurposing clothing to keep it out of our waste-streams.
It will also mean that children are ready for their Christmas jumper day at school (16 December) and National Christmas Jumper Day (11 December).
