The Trustees of Twynam’s Charities are looking for a clerk to undertake the management of the charity and its assets.
Twynam’s Charities are a set of five connected charities established between 1630 & 1840 by bequests from local landowners for the ‘Relief of Need’ in residents of Bishopstoke, Fair Oak & Horton Heath.
The charity owns five properties in Fair Oak which are let at affordable rent to families with local connections, and it also has some invested capital. The available funds, arising from the investments and properties, are distributed at the discretion of the Trustees in line with the Charity’s stated objectives.
The Charity faces a period of change, driven by a desire to modernise processes and to re-direct our resources more closely to the original aim of the Charity of ‘Relief of Need’.
The Charity is run by a Team of six voluntary Trustees, who meet at least four times a year and set the strategic direction of the Charity. The Trustees also set the budget for the Charity, decide on major works to the properties and on distribution of the charitable funds, all with advice from the Clerk.
The Clerk will work from home and the duties will include servicing the Trustee meetings (usually four meetings a year), including any extraordinary meetings called, initiating works arising from the meetings, producing monthly management accounts and annual accounts for submission to the Charity Commission, producing and monitoring an annual budget, making payments to suppliers, ensuring that all necessary insurances are in place, receiving and acting on any correspondence, liaising with contractors on projects, liaising with tenants and managing vacancies as they arise.
The salary will be in the range of £22,000-£25,000 FTE, depending on experience. Hours to be worked are variable but range between 5 and 20 hours per month, with an average of about 15 hours per month. All necessary equipment & stationery will be provided. Applications for part of the role will be considered.
The duties are not onerous but require a person who is organised and able to meet deadlines when required.
For an initial informal discussion, please contact the Chair, Anne Winstanley, on 023 8064 1902 or at annemwinstanley@gmail.com
After which a formal application will be required followed by an interview with some of the existing Trustees.
The closing date for applications is 15th February 2021. The successful applicant must be able to start by 1st April 2021. .
