Please be aware that the Met Office has issued a level 3 (severe weather action) cold weather warning for the period between 18:00 on Wednesday 7th December and 0900 Monday 12th December in parts of England. By Thursday, daytime temperatures will only rise a couple of degrees or so above freezing with overnight temperatures falling well below, possibly as low as -4 to -6 Celsius with one or two spots lower still.

This is issued when the weather predicted in a Level 2 (alert and readiness) cold weather warning actually happens. This means that a mean temperature of 2°C for at least 48 hours, and/or widespread ice and heavy snow is happening now and is expected to impact on people’s health and on health services. Although there are usually fewer days at these low temperatures, the risk of negative health impacts increases as the temperature falls. Aside from cold temperatures, snow and ice are associated with an increase in injuries and severe disruption to services.
