Memorials

Many families choose to install a memorial as a lasting tribute to a loved one. Fair Oak Cemetery permits a range of memorials, subject to the Council's Memorial Regulations, which help ensure memorials remain safe, dignified and suitable for a lawn cemetery environment.

Before installing, altering or replacing a memorial, an application must be approved by the Council. Families are encouraged to read the guidance notes and memorial regulations before making arrangements.

Approved memorial masons can assist with the application process and ensure memorials comply with the required standards.

Grave Ownership & Transfers

The owner of the Exclusive Right of Burial is responsible for authorising future interments and memorial work within a grave or cremated remains plot. Where the registered owner has died, ownership will normally need to be transferred before further interments or memorial work can take place.

Applicants are responsible for providing evidence to support any transfer application. Depending on the circumstances, this may include probate, letters of administration, statutory declarations or other supporting documentation. The Council is unable to determine family entitlement, inheritance rights or ancestry on behalf of applicants
